¡°CHOI Soo Hwan is a young genuine frontier. He has been ahead, and will be¡±
¡¦¡¦¡¦<musician SUNG Ki Wan>
CHOI Soo Hwan began his musical career as a member of the mid-90s¡¯ Post-rock/ electronics band Yellow Kitchen. The band released many albums including ¡°Random Elements 60¡± and had regular gigs in club as well as joined some music festivals. He has lately focused on ¡®sound¡¯ as the Generative art or the communicative media and has extended his interest not only in electronics but new media art.
Concert title: Sonic Carouse!
¡®I usually collect sound from my daily life or somebody¡¯s record. Sometime, I measure and reckon the time and space. And then make an imaginary soundtrack by gathering up the light and the sound like an alchemist. That could be a story about a collage of remembrance or at the same time a bundle of images in my memory. Those images made by sound could be a scene in the twisted world that F. Kafka wrote on or the decorative patterns in A. Mucha¡¯s paintings, or the sound furniture in E. Satie¡¯s music.
OverviewSOUND DESIGNER
The electronic music came up with contemporary music at the start of 20c and it has been widely used in various styles ranging from the classical to popular music. Utterly subdivided under the category of electronic music, the LIG Art Hall invites three outstanding musicians to show distinct elements of electronic music and sound with their own sensibilities.
KWON Byung Jun, a musician analyzing and testing the meaning and role of sound in the multi-aspects of concept, science and performing arts in pursuit of liberalization
CHOI Soo Hwan, a musician creating a musical collage based on a virtual system designed by computer program.
RYU Han Kil, searching for a musical possibility through abandoned machine, physical vibration and daily noise
Obviously it is rare that these three different-styled musicians put on stage together. The 3 consecutive concerts starting with CHOI Soo Hwan on Jul. 14, KWON Byung Jun on Jul. 17 and RYU Han Kil on Jul. 20 will be held one by one. Especially, the 3 musicians will play together in collaborative improvisation on the theme of ¡®time¡¯ suggested by LIG Art Hall. As a rare opportunity of visualizing the concept of ¡®composition¡¯, the concert will offer you an unforgettable time to see the history-writing artists on the field of electronic music in our days.
